God Gives The Increase

true wisdom

“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”

How or what do we ought to think of ourselves?  Paul is reminding us not to claim The Lord’s glory as our own.  Look around you and see all of God’s blessings manifest in your life.  Your accomplishments, your success, your health, your family, your friends; all that you see are given to you by God because of He loves us.  Let us not make the mistake of saying: “It’s because of my hard work” or “I’m successful because I used my knowledge and wisdom.”  With all due respect, hard work, knowledge and wisdom are good traits that can contribute to success; but it is God who makes success happen (1 Corinthians 3:6).  Can Moses boast about his leadership skills?  Can Solomon boast about his own wisdom and riches?  Can Samson boast about his strength apart from God?  I think not.

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. (1 Corinthians 3:6)

Paul in his letter instructed us to “think of ourselves with sober judgment.”  The truth is that no man can stand righteous in front of The Lord because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).   Today, we are blessed and saved because Jesus Christ has paid for our sins through the cross.  We use this faith in knowing that Jesus Christ has done a perfect job in redeeming us from the curse of sin.  We use this faith in knowing that God is a good God who blesses us even if we don’t deserve to be blessed!  We use this faith in giving all glory and honor to Jesus Christ!
