I like this movie because you can see more of Hollywood ‘s push for spirituality.
All of us are attracted to this realm which we instinctively know exists. Well guess what? This is what the Bible has been saying all along. There is a spiritual component behind everything material; and even the apostle Paul considered this to be more important:
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen,
But on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary,
But what is unseen is eternal
-2 Corinthians 4:18
Further more, I like the movie’s explanation that the spirit can actually heal the body. In the movie, Dr. Stephen Strange encountered a neurological case which he deemed incurable, only to find out later that this person was cured through spiritual means.
This caught my attention as this is what Christian Counselling is all about. We focus in the spiritual health of the person in order to affect their psychological and even the physical aspects.
In my book The Bible’s Secrets to Counselling, I compared 2 people with different spiritual beliefs: one believes God loves him while the other believes that God is out there to hunt him down for his sins. These deep rooted spiritual beliefs will be connected to the person’s cognitive scripts, which will affect how they later on behave.
Cutting a long illustration short, the man who believes that God loves him will continue to hope for this goodness and fight harder in life, creating in him much greater propulsion to prosperity. The second man, having a more negative opinion of God, will have no choice but to sulk in helplessness and hopelessness; cutting almost all momentum towards his success.
The time for psychospirituality is here. We have progressed in society enough to know that physical or psychological health alone is not enough. True happiness and true meaning in life dwells in the spiritual realm where we have to touch things and a Person much bigger than ourselves.
The world has spent its time convincing us that this realm does not exist (Atheism), that only the measureable, only the physical matter. Today, it has no choice but to acknowledge its truth so the world moves on to another tactic: to corrupt man’s view of this realm of spirituality by associating it with perverted interpretations and man made fantasies with such movies as Dr Strange and even kiddie movies such as Harry Potter. But there is no stopping the truth, that if there is a spiritual realm, then there are spiritual laws, and whenever there are laws, there will always be A Law Giver.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
