Love Begets Love

1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

The apostle Paul in this verse shares with us to “encourage one another and build each other up.” Some people take pleasure in the failures and trials of others; some people even wish the failure of others and there are even some who would even curse others to fail.  These are not the ways of The Lord.  The people of God love one another: we lift each other up instead of judging and condemning one another.  Why is this?  The answer to this question is found in the verse before the one given above, 1 Thessalonians  5:10:  “He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.”  People in Christ love each other and build each other up for one main reason: because Christ has died for us.  The revelation of Christ’s love for us, which is seen on the cross, destroys all feelings of insecurity and inferiority that causes us to go against one another.  If God almighty loves us that He has already died for us, then what is there for us to fear? What is there for us to fight for between each other?  Jesus Christ’s death on the cross demonstrates God’s love for us and it is through this revelation that we are empowered to love one another.
