True Humility

Humility is not rejecting people’s praises or rejecting credit from a successful project.  True humility is all about pointing to the One who really accomplished everything for us – Jesus Christ.  Is there really anyone in the world who can say that their accomplishments were achieved solely by themselves?  Can a ‘self-made’ millionaire boast that they earned their riches without any help from anyone?  Or can a parent claim all the glory for raising successful children who respect and honor them?  God forbid.  For the truth is that man’s flesh is good for nothing but sin.

When Adam and Eve were created, all they had to do was to obey one simple law; but still we failed God.  Everyone has fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).  Everyone; not even the best of us, be it Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, John the beloved, not even Peter, or Paul, and not even John the Baptist whom The Lord referred to as the greatest among us.  Who in this universe can stand up to The LORD and say: “I never needed you” or “I can do it without you?”  Look through the Bible and around you.  If you’re observant enough, you will see the obvious – that not one person in the Bible or in this world can survive without the grace of God.

So what is true humility?  It’s all about having the revelation that our success, our happiness, our provisions, our love, our life was and is made possible because of Jesus Christ who came down from heaven 2000 years ago and hung on the cross to save us from our cursed flesh.  Because of Him, all good things were placed right on our laps, and this, we dare not claim to be our own work.

Victory is ours but let us not forget that all the glory and honor belong to Jesus Christ!
