Worthy is The Lamb not Me

Christianity

The word of God says: ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD (Romans 3:23).  All of us are sinners and none of us are worthy of being sacrifices to The Father.  None of our works will ever be good enough to blot out our sins and none of our works can ever glorify The One Who Sits in Heaven.  What are we to do? We people are doomed to die in our sins (Romans 6:23) and we are helpless against it.

A lot of people in The Old Testament (and even today) have attempted gaining their righteousness to God through their own efforts and sacrifices but GOD WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY OF IT!  In Leviticus 10, we find the story of Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, who offered ‘strange fire’ to The LORD.  As good as their intentions were, they broke the law and offered ‘strange fire’ or unacceptable (unworthy) sacrifice to God.  Because of this insult, Aaron’s sons were consumed by fire from heaven.   The law of God clearly states: “Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon” (Exodus 30:9).

All Levitical sacrifices would always require a spotless animal sacrifice.  These are instituted by God Himself because only animal sacrifices that depict His Son’s beauty and perfection are accepted.  All sacrifices should point to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross; everything else offered to The Most High God are considered unworthy; which is what is referred to as ‘strange fire’.

One can see a picture of this before the law was given to Moses.  When Abraham was about to offer Isaac as a sacrifice to God (Genesis 22), The Lord stopped him.  There are 3 main reasons why this is so.  First is that Abraham’s offering of Isaac was merely a test of Abraham’s love for God.  Secondly, Abraham’s offering of Isaac was to show in the Scriptures how God loves His own Son, His One and only Son, Jesus Christ.  Thirdly, and going back to the point of this article, is that God stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac because Isaac was not a worthy sacrifice for God to begin with.  Isaac was born of Abraham and Sarah, he came from the flesh and not from heaven.  This fact automatically disqualifies him from being a ‘spotless lamb’ because his human essence is tainted with sin; sin inherited from his ancestors and sin committed from his own thoughts and actions.  God would never allow Isaac as a worthy sacrifice; he would instead be considered as ‘strange fire.’

Going back to the beginning: NO ONE IS WORTHY FOR GOD.  Just as gold and treasures are presented worthy before kings, make sure your blood and sacrifices are worthy of The Most High God. So, for those people who think that they are worthy of being crucified or for the ones who think that God appreciates their self-cuttings and flagellations, I bring a message to you:  GOD IS NEITHER AMUSED NOR IS HE SMILING IN APPROVAL OF YOU.  By hurting yourself and offering God your self-righteous sacrifices, you are offering The Most Holy God ‘strange fires’.  Your sin-tainted blood is nothing more but an insult to Him Who Sits in Heaven.  Just as Paul wrote: “No flesh should glory in His presence” (1 Corinthians 1:29, KJV). The Lord won’t even accept our tears for Him (Luke 23:28).

So what are we to do?  If all of us have fallen and all of us are not worthy of God, how then can we be righteous before Him?  Without a way out from our sins, how are we to face God’s Holy eyes and still live?  Won’t we burn in His presence because of our sins?  For now, I would say: YES WE WILL.  And this is the reason why John the beloved wept in the book of Revelations:

And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

Revelations 5:2-4

All seemed hopeless, everyone failed God.  Adam failed, Abraham failed, Noah failed, the prophets failed, the judges failed, and the apostles failed.  ALL FAILED GOD EXCEPT FOR ONE.

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. –Revelations 5:5

When all of creation failed, God sent His Son, the Lion of Judah, born of the kingly line of David, to be the perfect eternal sacrifice and Saviour of all!  Because of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross, no one else has to be punished for their sins!  When we face The Father in Heaven, He will smile upon us and hug us in approval; all because Jesus Christ has paid for our sins with His blood!

This is why Abraham rejoiced when he saw Jesus! (John 8:56) This also the reason why John the Baptist rejoiced shouting:

“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

There is no one in the universe worthy but Jesus Christ! Him and Him alone.  And what He did for us on the cross will resonate and be honored forever as the whole of heaven would shout: “WORTHY IS THE LAMB!” (Revelations 5:12)
