The War on Pornography

The battle against lust and the corruption of sexuality has been going on since the beginning of civilization.
The first ever commandment, today known as “The Cultural Mandate” directs us to “go forth and multiply”. We were made for procreation and sexuality has always played a large role in our existence. In Creation, everything was made good. It was God who created sexuality and it was God Himself who commanded us to take part in the role of co-creators; pro-creators if you may.

Being sexual creatures, we become naturally attracted to sex. We become easily tempted and easily swayed to derive of its pleasures without consideration to its natural and divine purpose. All the enemy had to do was to stimulate these minds, and down the hill we roll. Sexual sins multiplied and society itself was pulled down.

AW Tozer was correct (he still is). He said that a society’s state depends on their regard for God. Whereas civilization progressed, the attitude of liberation from God stemming from Adam and Eve increased and moved us further and further away from The Creator and His ways. Little did we know that this moving away from The Creator also diminished our regard for the sanctity of humankind.

We can invent names like “humanism” “modernism” but the truth is that the human race has never been this degraded in the history of man. Never before has the murder of babies been approved of, encouraged and even celebrated by governments. The sacredness of marriages has been closed to dissolved as our youths don’t bother with this concept or they just file for divorce after the honeymoon.

Sexuality is a dangerous instinct. A double edged sword that makes humans share God’s creative powers and purpose. It provides great joy, great purpose and meaning. Yet it can bring in tremendous grief and destruction. The enemy knows this and it knows how easy it is to tip the cup over. Human sexuality, once the expression of love and creation, can easily be turned to destruction.

In the earlier days, cultures have attempted to curb this dangerous instincts down. They’ve covered themselves up, they’ve covered their faces and tied their hair within those veils. Temptations were relatively low. Come in the modern ages. Where did all these coverings go?

Information, including sexual temptations have flowed and reached everyone. Sexual images were no longer scarce, they were no longer warned against, they have been normalized in today’s world.

These mental images transform to dangerous behaviours: voyeurism, frotteurism, rape, sexual assault, etc.

The world changed but the human constitution has remained as it was. Actually our moving away from God has all the more made us weaker and easier picks for the enemy. Temptations are experienced at exponentially magnified rate and intensity. Even so, the enemy’s tools are still improving and we remain distant from our Creator. Lonely, needy, overwhelmed with fears and stress… We simply do not stand a chance.

For this reason, I don’t believe that pornography addictions can be helped with mere secular methods and processes. We cannot do this on our own. This “we are gods ourselves” bullshit has led us here and society is near moral destruction. We have to admit, we need our Creator in this journey (just as it is with all other journeys). Only through the grace of The Lord Jesus Christ can we deal with such a powerful and overwhelming force.

Our only hope is The Lord. Whether through prayer, through worship, through Christian groups, even Christian Counselling, churches; as fish needs water, we all need The Lord Jesus Christ.
