That Ungodly Hour

Data gathered showed that most episodes of compulsively watching pornography occurs in the evening when the person is alone and bored at home. It is not so much as they are stressed but more of bored and that they want to stretch out the rest of the evening to delay the coming anxieties brought about by the next day. When are the other episodes conducted you would ask? Well, I cannot say that 100% of the episodes occur only at this ungodly hour because there are a good number of cases where afternoon episodes arise in conjunction with the evening episodes. Safe to say that in 99% cases of compulsive pornography, episodes occur in the evenings between 9pm to 2am; while some have additional episodes in the afternoon. This is obviously for the students who more or less have nothing to do in the afternoon when the parents are still away and they are left alone with their boredom (and their hormones).

I know that I’m mixing different categories and demographics and lumping them up as one large population of “pornography addiction”; but I’ll have less reliable statistics if they are analyzed per sub group. I do however suggest differentiating between low motivation versus high motivation groups, high frequency versus low frequency groups, adolescents versus young adults versus middle age groups. With all these variations and with the myriads of factors involved, it is still best to deal with pornography addiction (or what I would call Compulsive Pornography) in a case to case basis. Although we can see some patterns arise using the combined population data, I am not satisfied with the stability of the patterns. There’s only one way to go about this and that is to carry on with the work and gather more and more data to fill up each identified sub-group.

I do believe, at this point, that if we find ways to disrupt this common “ungodly hours” (9pm to 2am), a lot of people would be helped regarding the distress of compulsively viewing pornographic images and videos. I want to document here the video below uploaded on 4 April 2025 about the 10 Methods of Quitting Pornography. I’ve placed in the time stamps of each section within the YouTube description for everyone’s convenience.

The List is NOT Exhaustive
It is to be noted that the 10 methods evaluated in the video are not exhaustive. These are not the only 10 methods that we try out in therapy. Actually these are merely 10 Behavioral Methods to help you quite pornography. There are more behavioral methods to consider and I will need future videos to talk about other methods such as: Biblical/Spiritual Methods, Cognitive-Emotional Methods, etc. If you, my dear reader, have insights/concerns to share, please do email me at kirb@gracecounsellors.com. That would be a purely confidential exchange. I would like to thank you in advance for contributing to this ministry.

Most on the List are Short Term Fixes
Being behavioral techniques, deeper roots of the addiction are neglected. I would like to reiterate at this point that the methods in the video are to help for short term ranges only. They can translate to long term improvements if throughout the process, the person gets invaluable insights and permanent consciousness shifts take place. There is a possibility that the methods in the video will help for the long term; however, that is not the goal. Realistically, these behavioral goals are mini-tools to facilitate long term learning and change.

Needless to say, the video is definitely not a one formula fix for all cases. This is what makes the exploration of the human mind fun. It is never simple and it is never boring.
