Benefits of Believing in Jesus Christ

God's salvation

What can Christ do for me?

We are not here to point you to what a person experienced or what a friend of mine experienced or even what I personally experienced as a believer in Christ.  As good as they all are, man’s testimony are simply man’s testimony.  They almost never stand out in court particularly because they are almost always exaggerated and sensationalized and sometimes they can even be plain fabrications.  For spiritual and practical truths, my advice is that we always turn to God’s Word – The Bible.

So how can believing in Christ benefit you and me? For this, we turn to 1 John 5.  It’s a beautiful chapter that sums up the promises The Father has for believing in His Son.

1. SONSHIP

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. (1 John 5:1)

First and foremost, the moment we believe in Jesus as The Christ, we IMMEDIATELY become children of The Most High God.  This is an important benefit because all the other benefits in heaven and earth are unlocked through our new position as sons and daughters of God.

Can you fathom how easily it is for us to be saved?  Jesus Christ accomplished everything and all we had to do is to believe that He did.

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. -John 1:12

2.  VICTORY

For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. (1 John 5:4)

We know that we live in a crazy and dying world that is controlled by the evil one (1 John 5:19).  Whenever you find a peaceful time to spend with God and your family, stress will come to attack you.  Every time you have added money to your savings, something will come up and steal your savings from you.  Everything in this world is designed to steal away what you have in Christ.

This world is out to get you away from Jesus Christ.  So logically speaking, the world wasn’t attacking you before you had Christ because you weren’t His child yet.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. – 1 John 4:4

I have overcome the world. -John 16:33

Well, thank God for Jesus Christ! Because now we belong to Him, we have victory over this crazy world!

Is poverty attacking you? Take comfort, because Jesus Christ has conquered poverty!

Is sickness stealing away your happiness? Rejoice, because Jesus Christ has healed you!

Is fear and depression pulling you down? Praise Him, because Jesus Christ has mended your heart!

At the name of Jesus Christ, every knee must bow. -Philippians 2:10

Name any problem, any enemy, any power or principality. Jesus Christ has conquered all of them through the cross!  All of them must bow down to The Conqueror, Jesus Christ!

And because we are in-Christ, His victory is our victory!

3. REVELATION

All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. (1 John 5:10)

Through our sonship with The Most High God, we gain a direct access to His infinite love and wisdom.  The highest form of revelation is obtaining more and more knowledge about Jesus Christ and the cross.

In a more practical level, revelation, in its lesser sense, is manifested as spiritual and practical discernment.  Are you stuck between choosing decision A and decision B? Should you resign and start putting up your own business? Should you marry this person or not?

Jesus Christ said that His sheep hear His voice. -John 10:27

Well, that is us! As a child of the most high God, we have direct access to our Father in Heaven! Ask Him and receive your wisdom! He will NEVER ignore His children.

4. ETERNAL LIFE

He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12)

What is a couple of decades of fun on earth compared to the life that God has planned for us in life eternal?  The apostle Paul hinted about heaven by quoting Isaiah:

“What no eye has seen,

    what no ear has heard,

and what no human mind has conceived”

the things God has prepared for those who love him

-1 Corinthians 2:9

Jesus Christ shared to the disciples:

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. -John 14:2

Can you imagine a place that is prepared for us by The Lord Christ Jesus Himself?  Heaven is a real place, if it’s not, Jesus Christ would not have said so.  It is a place of infinite glory, infinite love, infinite happiness, infinite fun, as we have Jesus Christ Himself in our midst.  Eternal life in heaven is a promise that is guaranteed to us by our Father in Heaven.

5. FAVOUR

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.  And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. (1 John 5:14-15)

Can you imagine a life where the most powerful Being in the Universe calls you His beloved child?  What gifts can we ask from the One who can and Who is willing to give us everything?

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? -Romans 8:32

Believing in Jesus Christ will not just benefit you in the after life.  Jesus Christ came down from Heaven so He can give us the gift of the abundant life – HERE ON EARTH. (John 10:10)

That’s what He came here to accomplish.  He came down to be our Salvation.  And Jesus Christ being the perfect Man and The perfect God that He is, completed a perfect perfect job. Our only role now is to enjoy Him.
