Listening and Doing

James 1:19 “[Listening and Doing] My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,”

Have you ever experienced the day where your efforts and hard work seem to count for nothing?  Speaking and anger in this verse is a picture of human pride where we try to make things happen through our own efforts (Do Do Do!).  When things don’t go the way we want to, we get frustrated then we get angry.  The book of James reveals to us instructions on living a righteous life of grace (full of listening).  Following the instructions of The Lord, let us forgo needless speaking and anger.  Instead, let us rest in Christ’s finished work and let Him do the conquering.  When we’re in this realm of peace, it is then when we can listen and hear the Holy Spirit at His loudest and allow grace to flow freely in our lives.
