Our Marriage to Christ is Forever

Marriage Christ

The Lord Jesus made it clear that there is no such thing as divorce (Matthew 19).  What God has joined, no man can separate.  In God’s law, once man and woman are joined, they are inseparable, and the law of God takes effect our entire lives and will only be abolished when death has come. Remember your vows? “Till death do us part?”  (Romans 7:1-2)

This is exciting news in the spiritual perspective because the covenant of marriage was instituted by God to give man a concrete model of Christ’s relationship to the Church.  When God forbade divorce here on earth, that law simply reflected the truth that Jesus Christ can never and will never divorce us from His love. I say this respectfully knowing that The Christ will never break the very laws He once created.

What about sin and death? If sin leads to death, won’t sin lead us apart from Christ through death?

Well, I still remember what I said 2 paragraphs ago – that God’s laws are in effect until we die. Naturally, when we are married, our marriage will be made null and void through death of either husband or wife.  These laws are still in effect, BUT (more good news) in The Kingdom of God, there is no more sin and therefore no more death because of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross!  Jesus Christ will never die and those married to Him through faith will never ever die (Romans 8).  How then can we ever be divorced from the love of Christ?  Never!

This is what Paul meant on Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Remember this, we were all sinners once, and our flesh will continue to sin because our very existence is a failure to the standards of The Holy God.  But thank God for Jesus Christ who died on the cross to pay for our sins!

Jesus’ death on the cross was also our death and His resurrection is also our resurrection.  Christ had to die our deaths in order to divorce us from our marriage to the serpent (whom we married through Adam’s sin).  Now, Christ has resurrected, we are married with Him as we are resurrected with Him in one body (Ephesians 5:31).  Through faith, this marriage is signed by His blood which will never fade!

Once you believe in Jesus Christ, you are made to be His bride forever!

Jesus Christ will NEVER ever leave you and He will forever have all the reason to bless you.

It is all because of what Jesus Christ has done on the cross. Praise His name forever! Amen.
