“Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?” declares the LORD. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the LORD.”
Some people, out of guilt, try to hide their sins by doing good works. They do something wrong and they think that they should go to church this week or give double in their offerings.
People do this because they think that they can hide their sins behind their ‘good works’. This reminds me of what Adam and Eve did after realizing that they have sinned – They hid themselves from God. The same mentality is seen when people try to rationalize their sins away by feeling good after they do charity work, or worse, after sacrificing and hurting themselves (there are even some practices of people crucifying themselves!). What they are merely doing is hiding from God and it doesn’t do any good for themselves. The truth of the matter is that God sees everything and none of our good works can hide us and our sins from God.
So what can we do now knowing that we have sinned against a holy and righteous Father? After Adam and Eve sinned, “God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them” (Genesis 3:21). God did this to cover their nakedness (their sinful nature) and for this to happen, an animal has to shed its blood and die.
He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” Genesis 3:10
Today, though God still sees everything, He is righteous in NOT counting our sins against us; we don’t have to shed any animal or anyone’s blood. Thank God for His Son, Jesus Christ who shed His blood to cover our sins! Since Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins 2000 years ago, we sinners don’t have to go through any consequences of sin anymore! Praise Jesus that His blood is greater than all of our sins that through Him we are cleansed forever!
We cannot hide our sins from God, only the blood of Jesus Christ can.
