Work as Unto The Lord

Colossians 3
[23] And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
[24] Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
[25] But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Work and do your best in it, for it is not done just for your earthly boss but for God in Heaven.

For you serve the Lord Christ (v24).

You are placed where you currently are for a reason. It doesn’t matter whether you are a shepherd or a king like David; or a slave or a prime minister like Joseph. All of them served The Lord to the best of their abilities regardless of their position in society.

Joseph worked and was remembered – Genesis 41:39-41

He will honour your work accordingly.  For He is no respecter of persons (v25) – that is, He will look in to our fruits. I’ve seen this time an again where people treat their jobs with respect, even if there seems to be no one to witness it, they progress quickly. However, when they slack off from their current positions, they hit a road block in their careers. The first type of workers above are following the principle of Colosians 3:23 – work as unto The Lord. They worked well and for some earthly reason, like Joseph, someone remembered what they did and they get sought out in higher stations.

The second group, called slackers or quiet quitters, remind me of salt that has lost its flavor; even that of a tree that no longer bears fruit. It’s the servant in the parable of the talents who buried their talents away and even had the audacity to criticized their master. How can these kind of attitude ever expect to be promoted? They continue to perpetuate their slackiness and turn everyone around them off until they fully lose their flavour.

This Labour Day, remember Colossians 3:24; that The Lord will not just give you rest, but He will reward the work which you have done for Him. Be it building a huge company or sweeping the toilet floor. The work you have done was for your King and He will not forget that.

Here in Grace Counselling Centre, we bid you a good rest and let’s carry on the good work in the name of Jesus Christ!

A BLESSED LABOUR DAY TO ALL!
